Learn to Row Courses in 2026


Rowing is a great sport and as with everything, there are a few basics to learn before you can get the most out of it.

Our Learn to Row courses provide an ideal way to learn these basics and get a taster of what rowing is all about before committing to joining the club.

Please be aware that for your safety, if you haven’t rowed before, you will not be able to join Tees RC until you have completed one of our learn to row courses.


Each course consists of 6 two-hour sessions on 3 consecutive weekends

Here is an example program:

Session 1: Saturday 10:00 – 12:00
Introduction and water safety, plus basic technique on a rowing machine

Session 2: Sunday 10:00 – 12:00
Technical work on rowing machines, water session doing confidence drills

Session 3: Saturday 10:00 – 12:00
Technical work on rowing machines, water session focused on sculling and sweep

Session 4: Sunday 10:00 – 12:00
Water session building on sculling/sweep technique

Session 5: Saturday 10:00 – 12:00
Water session switching to sweep rowing in big boats coxed 8+

Session 6: Sunday 10:00 – 12:00
Water session in small boat and a chance to do some racing, other club members will be supporting this session
