Juniors – Learn to Row

Junior Learn to Row -Summer 2027

Has your child ever wanted to try rowing?

Our Junior Learn to Row programmes are designed to give young people the opportunity to try rowing in a safe, supportive and friendly environment, learn the basics of the sport and, most importantly, have fun on the water. Please note the minimum age is 12 or about to go into year 8 in the next academic year.

What can your child expect?

Our structured Learn to Row programmes will take place over four consecutive days between 10:00 to 14:00 and will introduce juniors to the fundamentals of rowing, including:

• Learning how to handle and look after a rowing boat
• Developing basic rowing technique
• Learning to row as part of a crew
• Building confidence on and around the water
• Developing fitness, coordination and teamwork
• Meeting other young people and making new friends

Whether your child is looking for a new activity, a way to get active and have fun, or the opportunity to discover a sport they might want to pursue more seriously, rowing has something to offer.

As an established volunteer-led club, our Junior Coaching Team is passionate about helping young people discover rowing and supporting them to develop their skills and confidence, both on and off the water.

What happens after Learn to Row?

Learn to Row is just the beginning!

For juniors who enjoy the experience and want to continue, there will be opportunities to become part of our junior squad and continue developing their rowing. Some may choose to row socially, while others may discover a passion for competition.

There is no expectation to be competitive, we want every young person to find their own pathway in rowing.

Summer 2027 courses

We are currently planning our 2027 Junior Learn to Row programmes and expect to run two or three courses during the summer holidays, depending on demand.

We will confirm the dates, course structure and costs once we have a better understanding of the level of interest.
If your child would be interested in taking part, please complete the form below to register your interest.

Completing the form does not commit you to a course. It simply helps us understand demand and plan the programmes around the needs of local juniors.

Please note that we have an agreement with Yarm School that we do not cater for children attending Yarm school, as they have their own rowing programme. In addition we are not currently able to offer places to juniors who are attending a school where rowing is offered.

Come and give rowing a go – you never know where it might take you!

Register your interest below and we will contact you with further information when the 2027 dates are confirmed.
