Tees on Tour in Exmouth

Sea Rowing in the sun

The next stop on Wilkinsons European Tours was in Exmouth, on the south coast – a 6k race at Exmouth Regatta to be precise.

As Teesside woke up to this….

A small group of Tees rowers was faring slightly better:

The trip started off at Neaves – the rowing equipment supplier, and specialist in rigger manufacture. It was a bit like being in a sweetshop, with so many shiny new spare boat parts on offer.

From there we progressed to sea training at Bob Cottell’s Coastal Barbarians club in Studland Bay (Dorset).

To say the sea was lively, is an understatement. Still, 10k later and we were getting the hang of it.

And they told us that to make the boat go faster, we need to relax more:

Then it was on to Exmouth for the regatta. We entered 2 quads – Dick, Bense, Roger & Mike in one and a mixed crew of Ian, Kristi, Tony and Jill Lees (a sub from Exmouth).

Conditions were a little more benign in Exmouth, but there was still a bit of chop about.

And then came the crew debrief, which is a very important part of any trip!
