Well done to Sophie!
On Saturday 25th April, the best junior rowers from all over the UK gathered at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham to take part in the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta. Tees Rowing Club athlete, Sophie Bentley, was representing the Northern region by competing in the Women’s Junior 15 1x competition.
Sophie was a little nervous before her time trial, but rowed exceptionally to finish 5th fastest in 4 minutes 25.9 seconds and qualify for the A final later in the day.
In the final, Sophie was up against a strong field including Dana Simpson from Chester-le-Street, who has been one of Sophie’s fiercest competitors in regional regattas and head races.
In an amazing final, Sophie fought hard throughout and looked like she would take fourth place, before a spirited late burst from Dana pushed Sophie into fifth place just before the line.
Overall the Northern team had a great day finishing 3rd in the points table behind Eastern and Thames Upper East who finished in joint 1st place on the same points total.
