Coastal Gold for Tees RC

Tees RC take on the British Coastal Rowing Championships 2025

By Martha Anderson

The British Coastal Rowing Championships took place at Tynemouth on the 2nd and 3rd of August. However, due to the conditions providing difficult entry and exits for crews to enter the sea, racing was condensed to be completed all in one day on the Sunday. Five Tees RC juniors took to the sea to compete and performed well with each of them gaining medals.

Henry Anderson, Martha Anderson, Harry Morley, Emily (Hexham) and Sefi Ormston (cox) became British champions, winning gold medals, in the J18 Mixed Coxed Quad.

Sefi Ormston and Zack (Tynemouth/Whitby) won gold medals in the J18 Open double with Sefi filling in last minute. In the same event, Henry Anderson and Harry Morley battled the waves to gain a silver medal as well as beating many adult crews.

Harry Morley and Sefi Ormston become British champions in the J18 Mixed Double winning a gold medal.

Sefi rowed for the fourth time with athletes from Whitby (including Julie Morley) to gain a silver medal in the Senior Women’s Coxed Quad.

Seren Williams overcame the harsh conditions in the J18 Women’s Single and placed 4th.

Seren also competed in a last-minute composite crew with athletes from the North East Performance Development Academy in the J18 Women’s Coxed Quad and became British Champions.

Overall, the weekend was a huge success thanks to Swift Racing for boat hire and Tynemouth RC for all the organisation to ensure the weekend went ahead safely. Coastal Rowing is definitely the harsher cousin of river rowing however it strengthens resilience and confidence within an athlete and is thrilling to partake in.

We look forward to our next race in the coastal season ahead.
