David Henry Storry: 12th May 1933 – 7th September 2025 aged 92

David Henry Storry was by profession a Chartered Surveyor and Auctioneer with the long established firm of Lithgow Sons and Partners of Stokesley.
His leisure interests were on the water. In his younger years as a member of Tees Rowing Club and on retirement from active rowing he went sailing. He joined Tees in the mid 1950s and was Captain of the club from 1958 – 1962. In his first year of leadership a Tees crew rose from Novice status to just below the top status in a single season.
This achievement was recognised by the presentation of an oar illuminated with the names of the crew and himself as Club Captain, For many years it hung in the Bay Horse Inn at Hutton Rudby. Recently it returned to Tees and now, fittingly, hangs in the bar at The River Tees Watersports Centre the home of Tees RC.
He served two terms as Club President 1972-1974 and 1984-1986. He was Chair of the Northern Rowing Council 1984-1986. After his retirement from active rowing he continued what was to be a lifelong interest and involvement in the club as one of our senior Life Members. He gave willingly of his time and experience and was a generous benefactor.
David was husband of Liz, father to Joanne and Richard, grandfather to Katie, Lucy, Victoria and Louise, and great-grandfather to Sebastian.
