About the club

Whether you are of international standard or a complete beginner you will be equally welcome at Tees Rowing Club. As long as you are male or female, over 11 years of age, in good health and can swim we have a seat waiting for you. By the way, there is no upper age limit. Some of our most enthusiastic members took up rowing in their 30's, 40's and 50's so it's never too late to learn! (Our oldest veteran racing crew has an average age of 60).

If you want to race, we do that - and quite sucessfully . If you want to enjoy rowing purely for recreation we've got boats for that purpose too.

SO, LET'S GET YOU STARTED.....

WHERE IS TEES ROWING CLUB?

We are based at River Tees Watersports Centre on "The Slipway" which is off North Shore Road which is accessed via Dugdale Street, Stockton-on-Tees.

The Slipway is accessed via Dugdale Street which is off the roundabout situated at the junction of Portrack Lane and Church Road.

Coming in by this route by car go all the way along Dugdale Street, turn right onto North Shore Road and you will see the Centre on your left in about 100m. Take the first left onto "The Slipway" and then first right at the end of this road into the Centre car park (tarmac surface / marked out / illuminated at night / covered by CCTV).

WHEN IS IT BEST TO COME ALONG?

During the winter we row at weekends only so the best time to come along and introduce yourself is on a Saturday morning between 10am to 12noon.

When daylight evenings are with us beginners and newcomers sessions are also run. During the winter we run Circuit Training sessions at the Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Meet at 6.15pm for 6.30pm start.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

Whilst there is specialist kit for rowing (and very natty some of it is too!) you will be perfectly OK starting with T shirt and shorts, sweatshirt, track suit, socks and trainers. For circuit training shoes must be of the "non marking sole type". During the winter months you must have enough on to keep warm and dry - it can be a lot colder on the river than on land. A woolly hat or baseball cap is a good idea as you lose a lot of heat from your head. Stretchy shorts (such as cycling) or loose fitting shorts are preferable as they more comfortable when rowing.

Add to this a willingness to learn, a sense of humour and a tad of patience and we believe you will be well on the way to a whole new world of enjoyment.

WHAT ABOUT BOATS AND EQUIPMENT?

We provide all the hardware such as boats oars and safety equipment.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?

We don't make any charge for your first few sessions. If you try rowing but do not wish to continue, don't worry, we are glad you had a go.
