TRC Today

Tees Rowing today is a thriving club that endeavours to provide rowing for all comers to the sport whether they are juniors, adults, seniors , men or women , whether they aspire to compete at the highest levels or just wish to row as a means of keeping fit and recreation.  The Club also caters for adaptive rowers and has the equipment and boats especially suited to enable them to learn and progress in rowing. The squad system allows all who want to compete to find other club members of a similar aspirations and to form crews to race or just enjoy rowing without the pressure of being competitive.

The club also has a social side and organises quizzes, barbeques and other social events including the annual dinner, most notable for its ’Golden Crab’ Awards Ceremony ’ when members who have done something notable or unboatmanlike are awarded  a ‘Crab’. The Club is wholly run by volunteers and all membership fees are spent on running the Club such as providing equipment like boats and blades or goes to the upkeep of the River Tees Watersports Centre.

Facilities

The home of Tees Rowing Club is at the River Tees Watersports Centre (RTWC). This is managed by a body called the Tees River Users Trust on behalf of the several water sports clubs including Tees Rowing Club that use it. Approximately half of the club’s membership fees go towards the management of the building.

The building is on two levels. On the lower level by the river is the boathouse with 6 bays where the club racks its fleet of boats which includes 8s, coxed 4s, coxless quads, doubles and singles as well as safety launches.  Club boats range from those that will suit beginners to the sport up to full competition standard boats and includes equipment suited to adaptive rowers.  Privately owned boats can also be racked in the boathouse on a payment of a fee.

On the upper level RTWC has its own gym which is fully equipped with ergos, a multi-gym and other training equipment. There is also a bar which is managed by the RTWC building managers.  There is also a large hall which can be used for events and in which, during winter, TRC runs indoor circuit training sessions.  A kitchen, a disabled toilet and changing rooms with full shower and locker facilities are also on this level.

A lift is provided between the two levels and enables those in wheelchairs to get around and the building is fully wheelchair accessible. Outside the building a balcony with wooden tables and chairs is provided.
